Our Bean-to-Blend Flavor Journey
Caribbean Roasters was founded in 1931 by Ralph Melizan, a Trinidadian and owner of the Melizan Coffee Estate in Grand Couva, a renowned coffee and cocoa-growing region of Trinidad. It was during this time that Ralph met Jose Perez, a Cuban coffee connoisseur and master roaster who had arrived in Trinidad seeking a better life. Jose introduced Ralph to the art of coffee roasting, starting with the bold, dark Cuban roast profiles. Together, they opened a charming shop on Green Corner Street in Port of Spain, where the enticing aroma of their exquisite coffee would attract passersby from across the city.
As demand for their coffee grew and export orders poured in, they expanded their operations, upgrading the factory and diversifying their coffee bean selection to include varieties from around the world, all while preserving their beloved, rich roast profiles. Today, the original factory remains in the lush, mountainous Western Valley of Diego Martin, Trinidad.
Today, the company has blossomed, expanding into chocolates, teas, and spices, while proudly carrying forward the legacy of its founding roots.
